History-of-Concept
The “Question-of-Intent” was invented at my Client Douglas Aircraft Co. (now Boeing) in 1988. It was used as a diplomatic way for junior engineers to hint to senior engineers, that their Engineering specifications were not totally understood, without suggesting that there was any Engineering Defect involved. The Specification-Writer/editor may use the Question-of-Intent in the Editor-Advice-Log as a memory jogger. There is a need to consider answering the question, by either adding material to the written specification, or by rewriting part of it: the Aim being to remove the need for anyone else in the future to have to ask the same question.
