Detailing

It is the degree to which a specification points out exactly and accurately the System components (e.g. Stakeholders, design Functions, sub-Systems) for which the specification is intended by the Author to apply. And consequently, it is also the degree to which a specification avoids unnecessary generalization, beyond the System components that it is intended to apply to, by the Author of the statement (or by the objective intent of the System).

Notes

This is, at least, “subjective precision”.
One problem occurs when the Author of a specification is precise with what they intend to say, but is incorrect with regard to what they should have specified objectively, in order to serve higher Priority specifications (such as Architecture or company Policy or a contract). The specification is subjectively precise from the Author point of view, but objectively imprecise (from some Stakeholder”s point of view, or from the total System point of view). Objective imprecision is a form of inconsistency, and can be discovered by Specification-Quality-Control (SQC) when comparison of the specification is made with the higher Priority specification (known as Source specification).

Specification Precision: Scale: The degree, in percentage of a defined
Scope of specification statements, to which a defined Type of
specification is explicitly understood by a defined specification,
Readership, to apply precisely to the spec Author intended System
Components, and no others.

A possible Quantification-Scale, or a general template, for specification precision.

Requirement Precision Means that a Requirement applies to specifically
targeted Stakeholders and System components only.

One of the most important tools for improving Precision in specification is the Qualifier.

For example:
Goal [Stakeholders {A, B, C}, Components {D, E, F}, After {1st Release, or
January Next Year}] 99.6%  European Law 52.3
Or
Design X [{Navigation [[Emergency], Ground Control [[Navigation]] Use Mil
Spec GPS.
