Concept Number: *099
English Master: Object
Synonyms, Variations & Acronyms: System *145
An object can be real or Conceptual. It is a term we use for Systematic building blocks of larger Systems – which themselves might be viewed as more-Complex objects.
Any object can be composed of sub-objects. It is a matter of taste, and relative Scope whether we use the term object or System to describe something.
An object is simply a “little System” – a building block of larger Systems. Object implies a potential Component of a larger System. The only distinction between the synonyms is that object infers something relatively small, compared to a “System”.
Given these two terms are mainly used completely distinctly – two Concepts have been allocated.

1. The object Concept is extremely general. “Object” is a description of almost anything.
2. The main difference between our definition, and common use of the term in the software field, is that we explicitly include the notion that an object can be described in terms of its performance and Cost Attributes. That, central Systems-Engineering Idea, is usually totally overlooked in the software world.
3. There is an implication in the use of the term “object” that it is intended to be reused in some way, for example, to be a Component of more than one System.
